Pfizer claimed that shipments that were delivered to customer premises were sourced from various target markets such as China, US,Hong Kong, and Canada. Another interesting finding was that Canadian pharmacies which were thought to be selling Viagra were actually counterfeit ones and did not have an authorized Canadian address. Only 18% of the total samples surveyed were found to be authentic. More than 77% of the websites surveyed were found to deliver counterfeit Viagra medicines. Such medicines, when assessed for exact chemical composition, revealed that sildenafil citrate, the active component sildenafil was different from what it was claimed on the label. There was 30 % to 50% variation in the real composition of Viagra and what the manufacturer claimed. Moreover, fake Viagra drugs lacked product information leaflets as well.
